Overview
The Teachers Recruitment Board, Tamil Nadu, has released Notification No. 02/2026 for the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) for Working Teachers – October 2026. Eligible serving teachers can apply for Paper I and/or Paper II through the official TRB website.
Candidates must have been appointed on or before 1 September 2025 and meet the prescribed eligibility requirements.

Eligible Teacher Categories
Eligible working teachers may include:
- Secondary Grade Teachers (SGT)
- Graduate Teachers / BT Assistants
- Block Resource Teacher Educators (BRTEs)
- Other equivalent cadre teachers
- Special Education Teachers (IEDSS)
The notification covers eligible teachers working in specified government departments, government-aided schools and recognised unaided private schools in Tamil Nadu, subject to the detailed conditions.
Educational Qualifications
TNTET Paper I: Depending on the applicable eligibility route, candidates may need Higher Secondary or equivalent qualifications with a Diploma in Elementary Education, a B.El.Ed., a Diploma in Special Education, or a relevant graduation and teacher-education qualification.
TNTET Paper II: Depending on the applicable eligibility route, candidates may need graduation with a Diploma in Elementary Education, a B.Ed., a B.El.Ed., an integrated B.A./B.Sc.Ed. qualification, or the specified special-education qualification.
Candidates should read the official notification carefully to confirm the exact qualification applicable to them.
Examination Pattern
- Total questions: 150 multiple-choice questions
- Maximum marks: 150
- Duration: 3 hours
- Examination mode: Objective-type, OMR-based written examination
Paper I covers Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, English, Mathematics and Environmental Studies.
Paper II covers Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, English, and either Mathematics and Science or Social Science, according to the applicable teaching category.
Application Fee
- General fee: ₹600 per paper
- SC, SCA, ST and Differently Abled candidates: ₹300 per paper
Separate applications and fees are required for Paper I and Paper II. Fees are non-refundable.
Documents Required
Applicants should prepare the applicable documents, including:
- SSLC / Class 10 certificate
- Higher Secondary / Class 12 certificate
- Teacher-education diploma or degree certificates
- Relevant undergraduate degree and marksheets
- B.Ed. or Special B.Ed. certificates, where applicable
- Community certificate, where applicable
- Differently Abled certificate, where applicable
- Service Certificate in the prescribed Annexure I format
- Recent passport-size photograph and signature
The notification requires the prescribed Service Certificate to be uploaded. Applications with missing or incorrectly formatted required documents may be rejected.

TNTET is an eligibility test, not a direct recruitment notification. Qualifying in TNTET does not guarantee employment. Eligibility, qualifications, examination dates and application instructions are governed by the official TRB notification.
